Consider My Ass Chapped

Because this is one thing that just chaps the hell out of it...and not in the good way : Oklahoma's religious fruitiness.  Let me first say that religion as a whole is a wonderful thing - if you're not insane.  And, sorry, but a lot of things people do and say in the name of religion is just plain stupid.  Oklahoma is full of them lately - this is an example.Jumpin' Jesus, We Got 'Em!

We have had a serial rapist we've been looking for since 2003.  They caught a guy recently who is allegedly linked to eleven cases so far.  The headline for the capture of this prick?  "Suspect's Arrest A Result of Answered Prayers".  Wha?  Really?  After three years, God decided that it was finally time to answer the prayers?  How quaint.

This goes right along with our governor's recent declaration of an official state-wide Day of Prayer for rain.  Our houses were burning down and the air was filled with smoke and ash for months.  Then, when it rained 3 months later, it was because they prayed for it on The Day of Prayer.

What, are all these deities on vacation during actual prayer time?  Who do they think they are, President Bush?

Well they couldn't very well say "Suspect's arrest a result of a great episode of CSI!" Sheesh don't get me started on this one!

I tell you, one thing I do NOT miss about the great state of OK (and I am singling it out because it is, of course, the only state in the "Bible Belt" I have had the pleasure of residing in) is the constant stream of commercials for some kind of Christian rock compilation album. I mean, I am sure your God is an awesome one and all, but enough already!

Chili girl! Great minds... No wonder we get along so well. ;) Megsypie, I love you. I don't remember ever seeing a commercial like that, though. LOL I think you were just drunk. Papanicolaou, leave me alone. Stalker. ;)

Either that, or those gems are saved for the lower half of the state... when there is nothing else but Christian rock and Walmart...

Howdy! I put a lil' welcome for you on my website. (Finally!) Hope you enjoy your stay.

Sounds just like something that would happen in Utah!! :) The church has to issue a statement before the governor can even get that far in these parts. On the positive of things, I think they are just trying to instill hope and since a majority of the people are "christian" they use that to try to keep morale up and make em happy. Just my .02 Luvs!

As a Christian, I will say that "answered prayer" does not always mean the answer you wanted/needed, and maybe not on your timeline. How could it? High-school football games would be impossible! ;-) I will also say that a better tag-line would have been, "Suspect's Arrest An Answer To Victims' Families' Prayers" or some such. Or actually, if it was my paper, "Suspect Arrested in So-And-So Case". Then you can quote the people saying it was an answer to their prayers in the piece, if you like. And don't even *think* about Phelps in the same context as actual followers of Jesus. Please. What a bunch of loons. Have you read about the biker group that travels the country to the funerals of servicemen to protect the grieving families from Phelps' lunatics? I LOVE ME THOSE BIKERS.

Belinda - my thoughts exactly on the 'proper' sort of headline. The way they put it, it made it sound like the only reason he was caught was because of the prayers. I do agree it was an answer to lots of prayers. :) And that Phelps guy? Psycho. Those bikers are awsome!! I posted an article about them on a message board recently. :D You GO!
