One Last Question For The Night...
So, hypothetically...how would one most safely and securely pack 1 bottle of Bacardi Limon rum, 1 2-liter of club soda, 2 limes and a package of mint leaves to travel on an airplane from Oklahoma to California?
Remember : hypothetically.

Can't you carry that on?
Or wrapped in towels.
Not that I've ever done this before.

Mojitos! Don't forget the sugar - they suck without at least some sugar.
Why can't you just buy the fixings in San Jose?

Good ideas!! Hypothetically.
Erin - I was going to, but the hotel said there weren't even any restaurants within walking distance...so I'd assume no grocery stores. (It's by the airport). And I wouldn't want to take a 20 minute cab ride to a place that may or may not have fresh mint leaves. ;)
And I gotta have my mojitos.
I'd ASSUME they have at least sugar packets there. Let's hope anyway.

Hypothetically? Pack it all in balloons and swallow them. You'll have to smuggle it.

That's why I am a gin and tonic drinker. The Tanqueray is wrapped in a zip-loc, the limes tucked among my socks. Remind me to get tonic water on the way to the airport tomorrow. I also have fresh ground Peet's coffee, filters and a filter holder...hey, a girl needs to feed her addictions!

Wait. There are no BARS or restaurants in the hotel? What kind of one horse hotel is this? Making us make our our mojitos? That is a travesty. A travesty. By the way, if a 20 min cab ride is what we have to do...well, it's just what we have to do, dammit.

Your best bet would be to drink them just before you hop on the plane. That way they can't actually charge you for excess baggage AND you'll have a GREAT flight :)

Premix, place in IV bags, strap to your thighs with the tubes running up the inside of your clothes to your mouth.
Hypothetically.

HYPOTHETICALLY you'll be travelling into California.
Who, when you go through the border, asks if you have any fruit or vegetables....
Just sayin'.
You're not supposed to bring any from other states into the state.
Good luck w/ that...HYPOTHETICALLY....

Hypothetically, you save yourself the headache and just hit a friggin' grocery store in Cali. Wouldn't that be soooo much easier?

Just toss it in your suitcase... I'm sure everything will be fine.
If not, then you'll have pre-made mojitos awaiting you when you open your suitcase. Sweet!

well... you COULD always use empty shampoo bottles. although if you do, it's best to make sure they are VERY clean (like dishwasher clean) beforehand.
Not that I've done that - but hypothetically
(why am I trying to help BlogHers have even more fun?!?!)
Buy the Bacardi in plastic OR get a travel bottle for it. And hit a convenience store for the club soda, if possible.
Plastic bag for the mint, but seal some air in it so it doesn't get crushed. Limes should be fine, but you might want to wrap them in plastic in case they squish.
And yes, I learned all this from my father.

Wrap em up good with plastic bags or whatever. Are you from Oklahoma? I have a lot of family from Oklahoma.

Towels will do the trick! yay for mojitos! They are the "hot" drink in Cali.
