<< Obese, My Butt. (Wait...That Didn't Come Out Right) | Main | The Answer : VERY >>

Her Bark Is WAY Worse

Living in Oklahoma and being the owner of beagles, I get a lot of people (ok...men in camo hats and vests) asking if my dogs are huntin' dogs.

I always laugh and shake my head, pointing to Moxie, whose belly is so round, her nipples nearly drag the floor, and tell them that unless a pizza is on the run, she's simply not interested.

I've had a few of the guys shake their heads and give me the stink eye, telling me that hounds are MEANT to hunt and that's just that.  They imply that I'm mistreating my beagles by not training them to hunt and kill squirrels or bunnies or penguins...or whatever it is people hunt with beagles.

I know, though, by looking at Moxie that she'd much rather lay in front of the tv drooling on herself than run around outside baying at prey.  I mean, look:

Does she look like she's ready to do anything that requires moving fast? And, for that matter, she's terrified of frogs...how do you think she'd react to something as big and scary as a rabbit?

That's what I thought, too.

With that said, she has done some of her own brand of hunting lately that I, as a proud hound mother, have to share with the blogosphere. It proves that she's not ALL that lazy and does actually get out and use her genetic talents sometimes.

So, see? She IS a huntin' dog! And, boy, is momma proud of that!!

She's so beautiful. But that dog crap eating thing ... ya, that's why I love cats more (sorry). They never eat their own poop. But, I think Moxie could melt my heart and make me want a pup just like her ... only she would have to learn how to share the litter box with The Cat.

Yuk. Goldie is a crap hound too. Mostly tasty, tasty cat crap. I am always having neighbors look askance at me when I yell "NOOOOOOOOOOO" as she grabs a big piece and starts to woof it down. She is half greyhound, so she loves to hunt. We go down to the boardwalk by the beach and horrify tourists. She will have her head stuck in a bush and be hunting madly. They say "What is she looking for?" and I truthfully answer "There are rats ALL over the place here." Then the tourists disappear. I am a regular one woman chamber of commerce.

Too bad they aren't penguin-huntin' dogs. Those suckers are delicious!

Have you seen the way most hunters treat their hunting dogs? It makes me sad. Moxie doesn't know how lucky she is.

You are so lucky to have such a fierce animal to protect you from all that wild concrete down in the big city. So fierce I just want to give her hugs. Cute!

Our cocker spaniel Levi is quite a hunter, too. He's always finding perfectly good food that my wife and I were foolish enough to throw in the trash can. ;)

What a cutie! if it makes you feel better, my jack russel is a poo dog too. To make it worse, he likes to pee on my other dog when she is peeing. They are quite Kinky.

Eeew, you got one of those Enlightenment comments too. Faahh-reaky. My dogs are great at fetching and retrieving their own butts. Oh look! My male lab has got one now. Good dog. Now get away from me with that mouth.

Love the pics! I've loved and lost two beagles in my life. They are the best dogs! I wouldn't have any other breed. You go proud Beagle-Mom!

Heh, good thing I taught him to hunt for panties. He was *supposed* to bring them back to me, though. Guess more training is needed.

My beagle is a crap eater too, it's a habit I wish he would lose. I also wish he would stop hunting, I didn't teach him, he just picked it up. Don't worry about what Bubba and the rest of the boys say.

Moxie is SO cute! She reminds me of Flash from the Dukes of Hazzard...remember that dog? LOL Chase, every time I visit your blog I laugh my ass off. Your sense of humor is right up my alley. I have been at work for 3 1/2 hours today and the phone has not rang one time....come on 12pm. Thanks for making the time fly!

Don't worry, Boomer will whip her into shape once you move down.

Moxie is adorable! I love the pix where she's one the couch or something, with one eye open, looking at you like she's really pissed at you! concrete huh? that's a new one. My Saint Bernard used to eat rocks out of the drive way...does that count?
